When you plan a vacation at the beach, you start thinking about the kind of memories you can make here.
Maybe you picture yourself walking through the waves, soaking up the sunshine … or building a sandcastle with the kids.
We hate to burst your bubble, but your pursuits with shovel and pail will pale in comparison to the magnificent structures sculpted in our sand each November at the Siesta Key Crystal Classic International Sand Sculpting Festival.
Held directly on the beach in Siesta Key, recently named the No. 1 beach in America, the event welcomes more than 40,000 attendees to witness the remarkable talents of professional sand sculptors.
There are demonstrations and lessons offered at this three-day festival. You can even sign up to compete in the Amateur Competition.
Children love the Art and Science Lab in the Learning Curve Tent, and there are plenty of awesome food vendors to keep everyone happy. Live music can be heard throughout the festival.
Following the weekend event, the Sand Village is open on Monday and Tuesday for viewing and People’s Choice voting.
(Note: If anyone in your party uses a wheelchair, head to the village Tuesday, when Mobi-Mats are placed over the sand for ADA access.)
So if you’re dreaming of sandcastles, book your vacation in November.
These are the sandcastles of your dreams.
